Maja Stojanović was born in 1992 in Podgorica, Montenegro. She began her artistic journey through folklore and ballet, performing with the Academic Cultural-Art Society “Mirko Srzentić” and the ballet troupe “Allegro.”
In 2011, she enrolled at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Cetinje, where she graduated in 2014. She continued her education at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, completing specialist and master studies in 2018 with the monodrama “Kaže meni mama” (My Mother Tells Me).
Throughout her career, Maja has performed on many prominent stages across Montenegro and the region, including the Montenegrin National Theatre, Zetski dom, Nikšićko Theatre, Budva City Theatre, and Madlenianum Theatre.

In addition to her theatre work, Maja has appeared in numerous film and television projects. She is known for her roles in the TV series Budva na pjenu od mora, Dojč Kafe, Božićni ustanak, Žigosani u reketu, 12 reči, Besa, Senke nad Balkanom, as well as in the films Between Day and Night, Cases of Justice, and An Endless Freedom.
Maja’s work has been recognized at various festivals, where she has received several awards, including:
- Special Award for the play Lungs, Nikšićko Theatre, 8th Festival of Small Theatre Forms, Zaječar (2025)
- Special Diploma for acting duo in Lungs, Nikšićko Theatre, 29th International Festival of Small Scenes and Monodrama, Istočno Novo Sarajevo (2024)
Beyond acting, Maja has worked as an artistic director, dramaturg, choreographer, and educator.
Her contributions include:
- Executive Director of D.O.O. TRAG – artistic direction and production of children’s plays (The Merry Christmas Tree, New Year’s Magic, Be a Friend)
- UNICEF Collaborator on projects such as DAISY textbooks for visually impaired students, Everyone in Kindergarten, and I Am Hope
- Artistic Director of the Podgorica Art Festival (2015–2018)
- Performer in Montenegro’s first opera The Balkan Empress (2008–2009)
- Roles in short films, commercials, fashion shows, and performance art
- Portrayed Jovanka Broz in the project A Tribute to a Woman and an Era
Maja Stojanović continues to develop her career through challenging roles and creative projects that blend theatre, film, education, and performance art across Montenegro and the region.
